Playgroup

MIPS has a fabulous playgroup that runs each Friday morning between 9am-10.45am in our school hall and outside in our junior playground.  Facilitated by Jules Brooks, a highly qualified and experienced primary teacher, parent and Playgroup Co-ordinator, the MIPS Playgroup welcomes children from the local community and surrounding areas, and is open to ages newborn to pre-prep. Our Playgroup aims to support children to build self-esteem and confidence, and to enjoy playing with others. Our Playgroup sessions are also a great way to meet local and school families, and share the journey of parenthood.

Sessions at the MIPS Playgroup are semi-structured with a fun weekly theme, craft activities, songs, story-time segment and outdoor play. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to gain experience in a school environment and a great opportunity for kids to become ‘school ready’. Enrolments are taken as a term booking with a term fee calculated based on $10 per session (first child) x number of weeks in the term. Reduced fees are offered for more than one child attending.

Playgroups bring young children together to learn and develop through fun, informal play activities and social interaction. During play, children engage with and learn about the world around them. The skills they acquire while playing are endless –  fine motor, problem-solving, creativity, language, social, emotional and resilience are all ‘hard at work’ during play – as are all of the senses.  Incorporating a variety of play experiences at playgroup enriches a child’s skills and knowledge – the more they play, the more they learn!  Playgroup also helps to ‘ready’ children for the next step into kinder and Prep. Playgroups can also support parents and caregivers to have fun and relax as they build friendships, and social and support networks.
