MIPS has a fabulous new playgroup that runs each Wednesday morning between 9am-10.45am in our school hall and outside in our junior playground. Facilitated by Jules Brooks, an experienced primary teacher, parent and playgroup coordinator, the MIPS Playgroup welcomes children from the local community and is suitable for youngsters aged up to 4 years.
Playgroups bring young children together to learn and develop through fun, informal play activities and social interaction. During play, children engage with and learn about the world around them. The skills they acquire while playing are endless – fine motor, problem-solving, creativity, language, social, emotional and resilience are all ‘hard at work’ during play – as are all of the senses. Incorporating a variety of play experiences at playgroup enriches a child’s skills and knowledge – the more they play, the more they learn! Playgroup also helps to ‘ready’ children for the next step into kinder and Prep. Playgroups can also support parents and caregivers to have fun and relax as they build friendships, and social and support networks.
